23rd May 2011. Sam Beeton, from Nottingham. Sounds like: Paul Simon. Essential track: “My Doll.” The most beautiful sound in the world is: “Jeff Buckley.” Cardigan and pants by Burberry Prorsum. T-Shirt by Burberry Brit. Shoes by Burberry. Subject’s own socks and necklace. 5th June 2011. Interview taken from www.musicreviewsandinterviews.blogspot.com
Sam Beeton is a folk singer from Nottingham, England, who got a start at an early age.
“I began playing guitar and singing as a toddler due to my father being a guitarist, and then a few years down the line I wrote some songs and was spotted by a studio producer playing in a bar in my home town of Carlton. This was my stepping stone into the business,” said Beeton. Even though he hasn’t had much formal music training, he created his own record label a year ago, which has been a great success. “I gathered three of my most trusted music business friends, who I had been working with for a number of years and we had a meeting about the pros and cons of such a venture,” Beeton said. “The upshot is that we decided to give it a bash and create Sweet Luigi Records. The reaction and take up of the ‘record club’ (which is a kind of never-ending album) has been mind-blowing! It’s worldwide.” As well as creating his own record label, Beeton was featured in Burberry, a popular British clothing brand company, for his music. “They got in touch with me after Christopher Bailey (creative director, Burberry) saw a video of a new song I posted on YouTube, called My Doll,” Beeton said. His influences are Ed Harcourt, Jeff Buckley and Ron Sexsmith. Where are you from? The Hospital, the hospital in a city called Nottingham in the United Kingdom! How and when did you get your start? I began playing guitar and singing as a toddler due to my father being a guitarist, and then a few years down the line I wrote some songs and was spotted by a studio producer playing in a bar in my home town of Carlton, this was my stepping stone into the business! How did you get your record label? Well, I gathered three of my most trusted music business friends, who I had been working with for a number of years and we had a meeting about the pros and cons of such a venture...the upshot is that we decided to give it a bash and create Sweet Luigi Records. Who are your influences? Have you been able to contact or play with these artists? I have been lucky enough to collaborate with one of my favourite childhood artist in Ed Harcourt, I went along to his house one summer and we did some writing. I enjoy being influenced by a very wide spectrum of artists, I love Jeff Buckley and Ron Sexsmith. What is your favorite song and why? I have so many! But ok I will pluck one from the hat, Strawberry Blonde by Ron Sexsmith How much education have you had? How much formal music training have you had? I’ve had enough education to last me a lunchtime, and no formal musical training to speak of, although in the future I would love to take on some mind crunching university courses...perhaps. Has music been what you have always wanted to do? Simply put, yes. How did you know what type of music you wanted to play? Have you played other music genres? I have played quite a few genres in the past, including most conceivable types of rock, and some jazz once but that was accidental. The Genre I deal in is as a result of it being the most natural to me. What is your favorite instrument, and why? Definitely guitar! It’s THE instrument is why, compact and many things to many folks... If you could play in any arena in the world, what would it be? The Albert Hall in London, is a big ambition...simply because of it’s lustrous history. What has been your biggest success? I have to say the creation of my own Record Label which actually works, works and works well! What was the most interesting experience you’ve had on the road? Has that affected your music at all? Realizing that all those venues painted black inside and out soon gets you down a bit. How do you get the inspiration for the music you write? I actually have no idea where the melodies and lyrics to my songs are coming from, they seem to be just waiting there, and I hope hope whoever keeps sending them down, continues to do so. How many albums do you have out? At the moment I have an EP a single and a subscription record club. When did you decide you wanted to make your own record club? Has it been very successful? About a year ago at the meeting that spawned the creation of the label, and yes the reaction and take up of the “record club” (which is a kind of never-ending album) has been mind-blowing! It’s worldwide. How did you get in contact with Burberry? They actually got in touch with me after Christopher Bailey (creative director, Burberry) saw a video of a new song I posted on youtube, called My Doll...He just really liked it! What are your future plans? Every day at a time, so dinner I guess...hopefully some dessert too. What do you do on your free time outside of music? Not much really, though I want to learn how to sail...I get up to the usual stuff you know, just like anyone. Out Magazine.12th September 2011.
Music and fashion have long been happy bedfellows, especially in Britain.
Christopher Bailey, the creative genius behind Burberry, wants you to listen up.
Sam Beeton.Sounds like: Simon & Garfunkel meets Sufjan Stevens
From: Nottingham, U.K. What he says: “I think I’ve always been very mature for my age. I used to go on a lot of European getaways with my family when I was young, and I just always felt like a cannonball that has been shot further than most people. I was always the youngest, so I spent a lot of time thinking about things, being fairly insular.” Loves: “‘Grace’ by Jeff Buckley. It’s always maintained an air of mystery for me. It’s an old favorite, but each time listen to it, the song speaks to me on a different level.” Bailey’s pick: “My Doll” We like: “Good Natured Child” 13th September 2011.

IT'LL BE A MIGHTY FINE MOMENT WE PROMISEIf we were shallow and had no souls we’d spend this story going on about how attractive singer/songwriter Sam Beeton is, and show you pictures of his face doing this:
And this:
But we’re not, we’re proper deep, us, so instead we’ll talk about how he sounds frickin’ awesome in a laid back way that brings a slight tear to our eye because we’re having one of those, ahem, emotional days.
And while Sam’s not playing his guitar he’s running a monthly Record Club in which he posts his fans CDs of all his latest tunes. A letter from Sam? Er yes please. One more pic of Sam? Oh go on then.
